Thanks to Instagram, world will soon have 60-second videos in Stories

Instagram successfully unveiled a live test of 60-second clips in Stories, according to Social Media Today. Longer video clips won’t have separate 15-second parts and played across multiple Stories frames as they were previously.

Alessandro Paluzzi, a mobile developer and reverse engineer, revealed the app’s code test in October, and Instagram verified that it’s already live for a limited set of users.

Introducing longer stories in Instagram

Instagram may soon have 60-seconds long videos on Stories

Social Media Today asked Instagram, and they responded:

The ability to create longer Stories posts comes highly requested by our community. We’re excited to be testing 60-second Stories so that people can create and view Stories with fewer interruptions.”

According to Instagram, the feature is presently under evaluation with limited users to give users more original flexibility. In addition, to better combine multiple video possibilities to optimize its creative tools and functionalities further.

Why is it necessary to use integrated tools?

Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri hinted at a future unification of the app’s video offerings back in January.

According to Mosseri, who spoke to Verge’s Decoder:

“We’re looking about how we can – not just with IGTV, but across all of Instagram – simplify and consolidate ideas because last year we placed a lot of new bets. I think this year we have to go back to our focus on simplicity and craft.”

TikTok, which surpassed Instagram as the most popular app among young people, has inspired the revamping strategy.

TikTok is integrated as a full-screen feed of video clips, and live feeds are aggregated into a single optimized, targeted listing for each user.

On the other hand, Instagram is much more fragmented, with Reels in its own stream and Stories in its separate section. This limits optimal adoption, hence why Instagram is now attempting to combine all of these features altogether, highlighting a more compelling stream. And also to showcase the finesse of each feature.

Why is this latest test important for Instagram?

Another phase in this steady convergence is the growth of Stories to 60-second video segments. The app will probably launch a full-screen feed of Stories, feed articles, and Reels into one, allowing IG, like TikTok, to optimize user experience by harnessing the full spectrum of uploaded content.

Longer films will allow users to publish whole Reels to Stories, for instance, virtually integrating the two functionalities seamlessly.

That’s a larger stride for the app and a more substantial improvement. It’ll come soon as part of Meta’s more enormous effort to reclaim youth. That’s a guarantee!
